My mother is a pious, religious woman. But in the last period she is feeling that the 'Shaitan' is having an extreme effect on her mind by forcing her to think in leaving prayers and Ibadats and etc. She is feeling under-pressure and exhausted. So what is the meaning of these signs and are there any ways in resisting him and pushing him away?
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
Your mother is affected by what is called a coercive whispering. It is one of the means of Satan, and it is very serious. She has to occupy herself with the remembrance of Allaah and the recitation of the Qur'an. If a person is preoccupied in other than the remembrance of Allaah, Satan controls his heart.
Allaah Says (interpretation of meaning): "And whosoever turns away (blinds himself) from the remembrance of the Most Beneficent (Allaah) (i.e. this Qur'an and worship of Allaah), We appoint for him Shaitan (Satan devil) to be a Qarîn (an intimate companion) to him." (Az-Zukhruf 43:36)
She has to be persistent in making supplications to Allaah and to be sincere in submitting herself to Him so that Allaah would take the harm and tribulation from her.
Allaah says (interpretation of meaning): "Is not He (better than your gods) Who responds to the distressed one, when he calls Him, and Who removes the evil, and makes you inheritors of the earth, generations after generations. Is there any ilâh (god) with Allaah? Little is that you remember! (An-Naml 27:62)
Allaah further Says (interpretation of meaning): "Those who believe (in the Oneness of Allaah - Islamic Monotheism), and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allaah, Verily, in the remembrance of Allaah do hearts find rest." (Ra'd 13:28)
Besides, Allaah ordered us to seek refuge in Him from satan, as Allaah Says (interpretation of meaning): "And if an evil whisper comes to you from Shaitan (Satan) then seek refuge with Allaah. Verily, He is All-Hearer, All-Knower."(Al-A'raf 7:200)
And after all this, if you do not notice any improvement in your mother's health, then there is no harm to seek religious Ruqyah (reading Qur'anic verses and prophetic supplications on a sick person) by a performer of Ruqyah on the condition that the man who would treat her, is following the methodology of Ahl-us-Sunnah Wal Jamah, and that he does not stay in seclusion with her. There is no harm as well to take her to a psychologist on the condition that he does not treat her in seclusion.
Allaah knows best.
