Question
I have a friend who suddenly started speaking in Hebrew and telling me about magic and matters of the unseen. Is he suffering from Satanic insanity?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
If this man was known for his adherence to the religion and if he had nothing to do with magic and soothsaying and then such an incident occurred to him, he may be affected by Satanic insanity. He should be taken to righteous people who know the appropriate Ruqyah (Quranic healing) for such patients so that Allaah The Almighty may cure him.
On the other hand, if this person was known for his deviation and being astray from the right path and claimed to have knowledge of the unseen, then he is a soothsayer who should neither be believed nor visited.
The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, mentioned that anyone who goes to a soothsayer and asks him about anything, his prayers will not be accepted for forty nights. [Muslim]
