Assalmualiqum , I want to know if it is obligatory for a son to tell his actual income to his parents and wife and children.
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy or worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
A person is not obliged to inform anyone about his real income, be it a parent, a wife or children, even if he is asked to do so by one of them, especially if he fears a harmfull consequence as a result of informing them. However, it might be better for him to inform whoever asks him if he thinks that there is a preponderant benefit by informing them. The scholars stated the criteria of things in which one must obey his parents to be matters that are beneficial for them (parents) and which do not cause any harm. For more benefit, please refer to Fatwa 82657.
Allaah Knows best.
