Question
Is it permissible for me to shake hands with and kiss the woman whom my grandfather divorced?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
Yes, it is permissible for you to shake hands with and kiss the woman whom your grandfather divorced as she is an eternal Mahram (non-marriageable relative) to you. Allaah Says (what means): {And do not marry those [women] whom your fathers married, except what has already occurred. Indeed, it was an immorality and hateful [to Allaah] and was an evil way.}[Quran 422]. The grandfather is in the same position as the father.
