Allah has opened doors of Islaam for me. In order to be a better Muslim I am intending to marry. Since I have nobody to look for a bride for me, I am striving for myself. But I find it very strange to see Muslim's perspective of me. Being a convert they do respect me a lot, but I have seen when it comes to marriage they start to pose questions, doubting my Eeman and finally the marriage talk just remains talk, i.e. they are not interested in giving their daughter to me. I converted not for worldly benefits, and I converted when I was into hard times. As Allaah has promised He gave me a good life, blessed me with good job, and Insha Allaah, I can manage for myself and my wife. It's really frustrating to see Muslims outlook for new Muslims. Help me with some authentic Du'aa for marriage.
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
We ask Allaah to make marriage easy for you and grant you a pious wife. There is no authentic supplication reported from the Prophet peculiar to facilitating marriage. However, the following saying of Allaah is a comprehensive supplication that includes such matters. Allaah says (interpretation of meaning) about the pious people: {And of them there are some who say: "Our Lord! Give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good, and save us from the torment of the Fire!}[2:201].
'Good in this world' covers all that a person desires: a spacious house, a beautiful and obedient wife, ample provision, useful knowledge, good deeds, etc. As for the "good in the Hereafter" it means
For instance, one may say: "O Allaah! I ask You for I witness that You are Allaah: and there is none worthy of worship except You; You are the Most Compassionate and the Most Generous," then ask your need as reported in a sound Hadith.
Also, raising hands during supplication is among the etiquettes of supplicating since the Prophet said: "Indeed Allaah is Munificent and Generous, and is Hayiy (which implies bashfulness) to turn away empty the hands of His servant when he raises them to Him." [Abu Daawood].
Moreover, seek the most appropriate times when the supplications are responded to like during the last third of the night, between Athaan and Iqaamah, and before Maghrib on Friday.
Finally, have good faith in Allaah since the Prophet said in a Qudsi narration on behalf of his Lord: "I am to My servant as he believes in Me, and I am with him if he calls Me." [At-Tirmithi].
The criteria in Islam for choosing a person in marriage are: religiousness and piety, as the Prophet said: "When someone with whose religion and character you are satisfied asks for your daughter in marriage, accede to his request. If you do not do so, there will be trials on Earth and extensive corruption." [Tirmithi, Nasaaee and Ibn Maajah].
Rejecting a proposal from a pious Muslim is not considered an Islamic act, rather it is due to people's culture and customs.
Sometimes a guardian refuses to marry his daughters off to a man for some reasons like not being satisfied with his piety or personal characteristics, since he is responsible to choose a good and suitable match for his daughter.
However, we advise you to improve your steadfastness, piety, good conduct and personal characteristics, and you will find many Muslims ready to marry their daughters to you.
Allaah knows best.
