Question
What is the religion's opinion of a Muslim lady married to a Christian man who attacks Islam all the time in our work? Should we complain to her Boss and try to expose what she does?
Answer
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
Islam has prohibited a Muslim woman to marry a non-believer whether he is a Jew, a Christian or other. Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {…And give not (your daughters) in marriage to Al-Mushrikûn till they believe (in Allâh Alone)…}[2:221]. There is a consensus of scholars about this order. Even if this person respects Islam, it is still not permissible for this lady to marry him.
This woman should be advised to leave this man, because this marriage is not valid in principle, it is fornication. And if this woman is still persisting, then her case should be taken to Islamic courts to investigate this marriage. We would like to draw the attention of the sister who is asking the question and other sisters that there are religious conditions that should be respected by a woman who works. Among these conditions is that she should wear Hijab when going out, avoid the unlawful mixing with men, and avoid or being in seclusion with one of them, and avoid wearing perfume when going out etc….
