My wife smokes cigarettes and after discussing this with her several times that she should quit, she still smokes and I am worried about my family and our baby. What is to be done to solve this?
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. To begin with, we pray to Allah that He may guide your wife and make her one of the righteous women. Our advice to you, as regards your problem, is that you remain patient with your wife and do your best to convince her of quitting smoking. It is preferable that you show her the medical effects ensuing from smoking on her personally as well as the health problems this bad habit causes to her children. You have to discuss the matter with her in a lenient and simplified manner. If she agrees to give up this bad habit, then fine (and it is this that we hope for), but if otherwise she refuses and insists, then you may show her an angry face and clear hatred for this act of disobedience. If things go to the extreme of lessening speaking with her and sitting with her in order to feel the seriousness of her mistake, then no blame on that. You may also ask the help of any one of her parents, brothers, or sisters who may influence her and convince her of quitting this rejected practice. We pray to Allah Almighty that He may keep all Muslims away from this bad habit. Allah knows best.
