With reference to the Fatwa: 14640 about magic, I would like to ask whether the given Ayahs and Surahs can be recited over water and be given to the person to drink rather than be poured over the head? I would also like to know how many times should I recite these Ayahs and how many times will I have to give the bewitched person this water to drink before they are cured? When should I expect the bewitched person to get normal?
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
There is no objection to recite the mentioned Qur'anic verses over water and to use it for drinking and washing.
Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allah's mercy be upon him) said: 'It is legal to write some Qur'anic verses and forms of Zikr (Allah's remembrance) on some papers, and then, we wash such papers and give the water as a drink to the bewitched person. Imam Ahmad and others stated this opinion' .
As for Qur'anic verses concerning magic, we recite such verses over water once or thrice. Then, we ask the bewitched person to use the water until recovery, which only Allah knows its time, since it is a form of the unseen.
Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {"And when I (Ibrahim) am ill, it is He who cures me;} [26: 80].
Allah knows best.
