My friend's wife is pregnant 4 weeks. She gave birth to her last baby 6 months ago. Her last pregnancy was quite traumatic and painful and she is very uneasy about going through with this one. In this situation, is it permissible to terminate the pregnancy by means of the 'morning after pill' or any other means? If it is not permissible, can you please advice on Amal, encouragement and Fadhail that may be related to the lady in question to give her strength and courage.
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
It is not permissible for the woman to abort her fetus due to anxiety about her delivery because she underwent painful experience in her last pregnancy. In fact, every woman who undergoes pregnancy and gives birth has to face this pain as a natural matter. So, this woman is not permitted to "remove" the pregnancy after it has occurred. Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {And when he turns away (from you "O Muhammad"), his effort in the land is to make mischief therein and to destroy the crops and the cattle, and Allâh likes not mischief.}[2:205].
Abortion is permitted only when a reliable medical specialist confirms that continuing in the state of pregnancy is dangerous for the life of the woman and there is no other way to avoid this danger. But if the woman does not face any danger for her life then abortion is not permissible for her at all.
The pregnant woman should fear Allah and ask Allah's Help and Support for herself. Surely, Allah will ease her from all troubles and grant her much strength to bear this burden. In addition, she should pay attention to her nutrition since good nutrition helps to prevent health problems and provide the woman with sufficient strength to bear such pains. Also, she should consult doctors to receive proper treatment.
All the above matters will bring some help. May Allah Help you and Bring goodness in your life.
Allah knows best.
