Ruling on Reciting Post-Prayer Adhkār After Leaving the Place of Prayer

Question

Assalamualaykum, I wanted to ask if after each fard Salah, we can make the post-salah adhkar even after we have left our sitting position and are standing or walking, etc.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad (ﷺ) is His Slave and Messenger.

It is permissible for you to recite the prescribed adhkār after the prayer while walking, standing, or even after leaving the place of prayer. The matter in this regard is broad and flexible. It is not obligatory to recite them while sitting.

However, it is better to recite them in the place where you performed the prayer, as this carries a greater reward.

Mansur al-Buhuti stated in Kashshāf al-Qinā’ while discussing the prescribed adhkār after prayer:

"If he says them after standing up and while leaving, then it appears that he has also followed the Sunnah, since there is no restriction in that. If he was occupied and then later remembered and recited them, then it appears that he will still attain their specific reward as well, provided that it was soon after and due to an excuse. However, if he deliberately left them and then made them up after a long time, then it appears that their specific reward is missed, while the general reward of making dhikr remains for him.” [End quote].

Allah Knows best.
