It is necessary to remove mucus of nose in wudu and ghusul
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
It is not an obligation to remove the mucus from the nose in Wudu and Ghusl, but Istinshaq (nasal wash) is required in Wudu and Ghusl – which means to inhale water into the farthest part of the nose – this process is an obligation according to some scholars, and Sunnah according to some others, and it is recommended to do it as much as possible except for the fasting person.
According to the scholars who said it is an obligation, it can be fulfilled just by inhaling water into the nostrils.
Ash-Sharh Al-Mumti’ ‘Ala Zad Al-Mustaqni’ reads:
“For the obligatory limit, it is enough to circulate the water into the mouth to the minimum level, and to inhale the water into the nostrils.” [End of quote]
Some scholars recommend removing the mucus and others from the nose; this is the perfect way, but it is not mandatory.
Hashiyat Al-‘Adawi Al-Maliki ‘Ala Sharh Al-Kharshi reads about Istinthar (nasal wash): “Some scholars recommend inserting the finger into the nose to remove the mucus and dirt in it.” [End of quote]
Allah knows best.
