Putting the Name of Allah next to Muhammad in a Frame

Question

Asalaam alaikumIn my home we have islamic frames. In the frames on the top right hand side its says "Allah" swt in arabic and then on the top left hand side of the frame it says "Muhammad" pbuh in arabic. Is this shirk?, other frames the names are next to each other. None of us have these frames to do shirk etc. These frames have Qu'ran ayat on .Also we have these frames which have Qu'ran ayat on them hanging on the wall. On the same wall we have a tv in level with the frames. They are literally side by side. Some of the framrs are below the TV right under it.. On this TV we watch alk kinds of stuff. Like movies music etc. Is any of this kufr due to shirk(above) or mocking these ayats?. We in no way intent to do either of these two things. Barakhallah feek

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

There is no doubt that it is not Kufr or Shirk to simply hang up frames in which the Name of Allah is written next to the name of the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) or to put such frames next to the television in which programs that include Islamic prohibitions are shown.

It is obvious that your question stems from the excessive obsession (whispers) which you are affected with; we ask Allah to cure you from it.

The cure to this is to totally ignore these whispers, stop busying yourself with them, refrain from giving in to them, stop asking questions about them, and to supplicate Allah to cure you from them.

It is also good to consult with psychiatrists, to treat your Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

Asking too many questions and detailing issues will not cure you from whispers. Rather, this will make you even more obsessed and confused.

It is true that some contemporary scholars –such as the Standing Committee, Ibn 'Uthaymeen and others – have forbidden joining the name of Allah and the name of Muhammad in frames as they consider this to be an exaggeration, but they never said that this is Kufr.

However, the view that we adopt is that this issue cannot be categorized as absolutely forbidden, because merely joining the two names is something which exists in many religious texts [in the Quran and the Sunnah]

Also, hanging up the verses or Athkaar (mention of Allah) in places of forbidden entertainment is regarded as a moral insult to it according Ibn ‘Uthaymeen may Allaah have mercy upon him as he said:

"However, some gatherings –or many of them – where verses are written (in the place of gathering) may involve idol talk, and it may even include forbidden statements, or forbidden songs, and this is a clear moral despise to the Quran." [End of quote]

However, he did not consider this action to be Kufr or Shirk.

Allah knows best.
