He stood there for a while and returned to me in a very happy state. He said, 'I asked my Lord, and He revived my mother; she was sent back after she believed in me.'" Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

The hadeeth about reviving the parents of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) and them believing in him and then causing them to die again is a hadeeth about which the scholars differed in opinion as to whether it is authentic or not.

Al-Qurtubi, As-Suyooti, and others said that it is authentic. However, the most prominent scholars of Hadeeth classified it as weak, and many of them ruled that it is fabricated.

Ibn Katheer may Allaah have mercy upon him said in his Tafseer (exegesis), "The hadeeth about reviving the parents of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is not reported in any of the six books of the Sunan, nor in any other book, and its Isnaad (chain of narrators) is weak."

Among the scholars who decisively stated that the hadeeth is fabricated are Ibn Al-Jawzi, Shaykh Ibn Taymiyyah, and others.

Allah knows best.
