Drawing unicellular organisms

Question

In biology, we have to draw pictures of unicellular organisms like amoebae and others. Is this permissible?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

It is permissible to draw pictures of living beings if the animal is incomplete in a way that makes it unable to survive as such, like drawing the animal's face alone or its head or any part detached from the body.

Ibn Qudaamah may Allaah have mercy upon him wrote, “The same applies to the case if the image is of a body without the head, the head without the body, or the head of an animal attached to a body of a different creature. This does not fall into the category of the prohibited image-making.” [Al-Mughni]

Our Arabic fatwa no. 166333 is entitled: “The animal cell does not fall into the category of prohibited image-making.

Allah knows best.
