I live in the west and I have been looking for a job for more than two years to support my family. I finaly I applied to a job and got accepted. In the begining, I didn't know that the company also has a product which is a cover or cap for wine bottles. As soon as I started, I was asked by my manager to do work for this product. My question is, am I committing a sin by accepting knowing that if I leave this job that the chances of finding another one soon is very very slim, especially in this economy. Please advice. Jazakum Allah Khayr
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
Working in producing covers for wine bottles is forbidden and it is not permissible for you to continue doing this job as Allaah Says (what means): {Help you one another in virtue, righteousness and piety but do not help one another in sin and transgression.}[Quran 5:2]
Therefore, we advise you to take the initiative to leave this job and look for another lawful job. You should rely on Allaah and have trust in His great Favours and vast Mercy, and you should be certain that fearing Allaah is a reason for getting an abundant provision and for goodness. Allaah Says (what means): {… And whoever fears Allaah — He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect.}[Quran 65:2]
It is also confirmed that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: "Whoever abandons something for the Sake of Allaah, Allaah will compensate him with something better.”
Allaah Knows best.
