Working as an agent for an Islamic insurance company

Question

Is the commision received from working as an agent to a Takaful company halal where one of the shareholders of the Takaful company is a company involved in investment activities, which we know may not be in accordance with the syariah?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It is permissible to work as an agent for an Islamic Takaaful (cooperative insurance) company and the salary which you are paid in return for this work is lawful.

The fact that one of the contributors to this company has forbidden activities outside the Takaaful company does not harm it or its employees, as the scholars permitted that a Muslim be a partner with a non-Muslim in any partnership (company) that is lawful in terms of the Sharee’ah, so it is more lawful to work for this company. It is even permissible for a Muslim to work for a non-Muslim who has forbidden kinds of trade provided the work of the Muslim is limited to what is lawful among the non-Muslim’s trade and activities.

Allaah Knows best.
