Question
Aslam ole kum (r.o.b). This is regarding Eid al fitr & Eid al adha, As one of imam in india said that we must wear new clothes on Eid day. But what i practice is i use to wear payjam & kurta for Eid prayer which is not new but it is washed & clean. Later for the day i used to wear new clothes like trouser & shirt.
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad 
is His slave and Messenger.
It is not an obligation upon a Muslim to wear new clothes on the day of ‘Eed, and no scholar has issued a Fatwa to this effect as far as we know. However, the scholars 
stated that it is desirable for a Muslim to beautify himself for ‘Eed, like performing Ghusl, wearing his best clothes, and wearing the new clothes is better, and wearing the white-colored ones are best. If the clothes are not new, then what is nearly new comes in priority over other clothes.
Even the jurists of the Hanafi School of jurisprudence –which is the School that is prevalent in the country of the questioner –they stated that it is desirable to wear new clothes or the used washed clothes but they did not state that it is an obligation to wear new clothes.
Therefore, we do not know any evidence regarding wearing new clothes on the day of ‘Eed, and we have not heard of any scholar who adopted this view.
Hence, you may wear whatever clothes that are available to you, but it is better to wear new clothes if possible. It is acceptable if it is a long shirt and trousers, otherwise you may wear the best clothes that are available to you.
