Question
Assalamou alaykoum,what's the ruling of organizing "barbecue" to raise money for a mosque?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad 
is His slave and Messenger.
Donating for building or maintaining mosques and urging people to donate for this purpose by permissible means is an act of righteousness and it is desirable to cooperate to do it.
Therefore, if what is meant by ‘barbecue’ party is to cook meat and sell it in this party and then its price will be donated to the mosque, or that the gathering of the people is considered as an opportunity to urge them to donate, then this is permissible. However, the religious requirements should be met, so the festival should not include religious prohibitions like music and forbidden mixing between men and women.
