Are You One of Them?

Are You One of Them?

The days and nights of Ramadan pass by, while the ways of investing time and efforts in them varies from one person to another. Some people hasten and compete in various kinds of good deeds. Others do not give up their sins but persist in their disobedience. We ask Allah The Almighty to guide all of us!

However, there are certain Divine gifts, by neglecting which one would indeed be committing an ugly deed. The loss of these gifts cannot be compensated. For example, Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, said that the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ), said: “Allah would set free from Hell some people. This is in every night (of Ramadan).” [At-Tirmithi and Ibn Maajah]

Jaabir, may Allah be pleased with him, said that the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ), said: “Allah sets free from Hell some people at every breaking of the fast, and this happens every night.” [Ibn Maajah] Ahmad may Allah have mercy upon him narrated the same Hadeeth on the authority of Abu Umaamah, may Allah be pleased with him.

Dear reader, if anyone of us asks oneself, am I one of those who has won this Divine Gift even in one of the past nights?
Of course, none of us knows about this with certainty. However, a Muslim is required to spare no effort in order to be eligible to gain this great gift. This could happen by doing good deeds and striving against the self in order to give up sins.
Every one of us knows himself and his shortcomings well. Everyone should hasten to set right his faults whether it is negligence of the rights of Allah The Almighty or the rights of people. Then, he should perform good deeds for the rest of his year, for deeds are judged by their end. If the end of the month is on a bad note, it is a sign that the deed was rejected. If the end of the month is good, all the deeds would be good. We ask Allah The Almighty to guide us to do righteous deeds and accept them from us.

The chance of a lifetime!

Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {The Night of Al-Qadr is better than a thousand months.} [Quran 97:3] It means that worship during the Night of Al-Qadr is better than worshipping Allah The Almighty for a thousand months that do not include the Night of Al-Qadr. A thousand months equals eighty three years and four months.
Imagine that you, during all this period, are worshipping Allah The Almighty! What is better than this is to perform permissible acts of worship on this Night such as prayer, supplication, recitation of the Quran, maintaining kinship ties, giving charity, benevolence and other kinds of goodness.

The Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ), said: “Whoever spends the Night of al-Qadr in voluntary prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward, will be forgiven his previous sins.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim] in another narration, “…will be forgiven his previous and future sins.” [Ahmad; Ibn Hajar: Hasan]

It was called the Night of Al-Qadr because of its great value before Allah The Almighty (the Arabic term Qadr may mean value or decree or limit); or because what would happen in the following year is decreed during this night that it moves from the Sacred Tablet to the scripts of the angels; or because its time is limited since it is unknown to people.

It takes place on one of the last ten nights of Ramadan. It is most likely to be on the odd numbered nights. The Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ), said: “It (Ramadan) has a night that is better than one thousand months. Whoever is deprived of its goodness is truly deprived.” [Ahmad and An-Nasaa’i]

Imaam Adh-Dhahhaak may Allah have mercy upon him was asked whether the women who are in a state of postpartum bleeding or menstruation, the traveler or the sleeping person have a share in the Night of Al-Qadr. He said, “Yes. Everyone whose deeds Allah The Almighty accepts his deed, Allah would give him his share of the Night of Al-Qadr.”

Dear brothers and sisters, all of us have sins and fall short in performing the orders of Allah The Almighty. However, Allah The Almighty is The Most-Forgiving and Most-Pardoning. It is one of the aspects of His Benevolence that He gives us these blessed seasons and these great chances. The slave is asked to exert efforts in doing good deeds. Everyone will find it easy to do such deeds (as will lead him to his destined place) for which he has been created. So, hasten to do good deeds during the rest of the month. Perhaps you would compensate the lost days of your life. We seek the help of Allah The Almighty.

The Commander of the Believers, Mu‘aawiyah ibn Abi Sufyaan, may Allah be pleased with him, said that he heard the Messenger of Allah sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ), saying: “Deeds are like a container; if its bottom is good, then its top is good. If its bottom is corrupt, then its top is corrupt.” [Ibn Maajah; Ibn Hibbaan: Saheeh]
