Greek coast guard sinks refugee boat

A video released Friday appears to show Greek coast guards puncturing a dinghy boat with a sharp object earlier in November in the Aegean Sea.

Video footage released by Turkey's Office of Public Diplomacy on Friday shows a sea vessel numbered LS-060, belonging to the Greek coast guard, approach the dinghy carrying refugees, reportedly on Nov. 12.

An officer then seems to puncture the boat with a lance. The Greek forces then appear to rush away from the scene immediately.

The Turkish Coast Guard then rescued the 58 Syrian nationals to take them to the port of Didim in Western Turkey, according to the Turkish Office of Public Diplomacy.

At least 3,138 refugees have died crossing the Mediterranean Sea so far this year, according to the International Organization for Migration.

According to the UN’s Refugee Agency, the total number of arrivals in 2015 so far in Europe via the Mediterranean is now over 640,000 people.

Greece is a temporary location for refugees attempting to enter Europe.
