The Israeli army detained eight Palestinians in overnight raids in the West Bank provinces of Ramallah and Al-Khalil (Hebron), a Palestinian NGO said Monday.

"Israeli forces arrested five Palestinians in several villages around Ramallah after raiding and searching their homes. Three more Palestinians were detained in Al-Khalil, the NGO, which monitors Israeli arrest campaigns." the Palestinian Prisoners Society said in a statement.

Israeli forces routinely round up Palestinians in the occupied West Bank on claims they are "wanted" by the Israeli authorities.

Over 7,000 Palestinians are currently languishing in Israeli prisons, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Prisoners' Affairs.
