Scores suffer gas inhalation as police disperse pro-Morsi rallies in Alexandria

Scores of supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi suffered gas inhalation late Wednesday when security forces dispersed pro-democracy rallies in the coastal city of Alexandria.

Police forces fired teargas to disperse a pro-Morsi rally in Geleem district in eastern Alexandria, triggering clashes with protesters, eyewitnesses said.

A number of pro-democracy protesters were injured, including two seriously, when police forces attacked a pro-Morsi rally in al-Soyouf district.

Ten demonstrators were arrested in clashes between protesters and security forces in Sidi Beshr district in eastern Alexandria, a security source.

Morsi, Egypt's first democratically elected president, was removed from power by the military following protests against his rule.

Supporters of the ousted president denounce his ouster as a "military coup" and have been staging rallies on almost a daily basis to demand his reinstatement.
