Question:

My question is Im looking to get married to a young lady comes from a nice family but the problem is her family own a store have liquer/pharmacy like a small supermarket....My father aginst it and I like her and i was wondering what is the fatwa for this problem i dont know what to do for both sides??? thank you

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

If this girl is religious and has a good moral character, then the fact that her family sells intoxicants is not a religious obstacle for marrying her. Allaah Says (what means): {And every soul earns not [blame] except against itself, and no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another.}[Quran 6:164]. It is forbidden to sell intoxicants because they cause drunkenness and everything which causes drunkenness which is forbidden. For more benefit, please refer to Fatwa 85347.

The scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them stated that it is an obligation for a son to obey his parents if they object his marriage to a specific woman provided there is a sought benefit to be achieved as a result of their objection or that they object because they fear harm from this marriage. Furthermore, the scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them conditioned that obeying them should not cause harm to their son. If none of the above matters apply, then the son is not obliged to obey them.

Finally, you should try to convince your parents and try to please them whether or not you marry this woman.

Allaah Knows best.
