All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
We have already answered some parts of this question in Fatwa 84002 which is about the definition of Jinn, and Fatwa 83882 on the characteristics of Jinn, and Fatwa 88660 on how to seek treatment from Jinn possession, and Fatwa 86197 on how to drive them out of a house or any other places, and Fatwa 85875 on the ruling of seeking the help of Jinn and using them in achieving one's needs or objectives.
As regards deliberately making Jinn possess someone, this is not permissible as this is seeking the help and assistance of the Jinn; this is something forbidden as already mentioned in the above referred Fataawa. The same thing applies to seeking the presence of a Jinn; this is not permissible regardless of the method by which it is done.
With regard to reading chapter 72 'The Jinn' 40 times in a dark room, there is no evidence on this neither in the Book of Allaah nor the Sunnah of the Prophet ; so this is among the innovations and forbidden misguidance.
Allaah Knows best.
