Left the Sufi groups and is experiencing painful things

Question:

I heard about Sufism years ago and how it elevates you to happiness, divine manners and love of God. I strongly desired to belong to Sufis. Later, when I heard of a Sufi group, I got in touch with it with the intention to lean more about Sufism and choose a suitable “Tarika”. A few days later, I felt disappointed and decided to withdraw. Soon after, I began experiencing very painful things: hard palpitations, extreme cold, extreme heat, electric shocks from invisible sources, hearing voices, nightmares, starvation, insomnia, disappearance of objects, some clothes changed colour. A few years later, God put a Sunni group in my way. My religious beliefs have completely changed. I have no relation whatsoever with Sufi thought. My sufferings went down, but have not disappeared. This has lasted for 18 years. These last five years, I have seen many “Rokya practicians", none of them could help me. It makes me very sad to see people with whom I have daily contact get depressed when getting in touch with me. Two women colleagues gave birth to mentally retarded children, which I believe is related to what I am undergoing. In addition to the scholars valuable guidance and advice, I also hope to hear from anyone who had undergone a similar experience, or anyone who can help.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

First of all, all perfect praise be to Allaah, who saved you from that group because most of the Sufi groups are deviant in their creed, belief, methodology and behaviour. Indeed they extol pious people, honour the dead as they slaughter to them, and vow to them, and some even circumambulate around their graves. In addition to this, they recite innovated mention of Allaah which is rarely free of calling upon other than Allaah. Moreover, they hold some people in a rank that is as great as Allaah's and this is nothing but major Shirk (associating partners to Allaah) itself. For more details please refer to Fataawa 8724485140 and 82017.

As regards what you are experiencing, it might be that it is a physical or psychological disease, so you should consult doctors and it might be that you will find a cure Inshaa' Allaah. What you are experiencing could also be because of being possessed by a devil; in order to get rid of this, you should seek Ruqyah with the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ). The fact that you did not find a cure from the previous people who performed Ruqyah on you, does not mean that others could not be the means to cure you with the permission of Allaah with the use of Ruqyah. The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "Allaah has not sent down any disease without sending a remedy for it; still some will know it and some will not." [Ahmad]

Finally, we do not think that there is any correlation between what happened to your colleague and to you.

May Allaah cure everyone.

Allaah Knows best.
