Question:

I live in America as an immigrant. I work in a supermarket belongs to Muslim Arabic people. In this supermarket I have two functions. First, I sell some types of food contain pork as part of their ingredients. Second, I carry the empty boxes of these foods out side. My question: Is my work in this supermarket prohibited or not? What about the money which I gained?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

You surely know that pork is forbidden, so it is forbidden for you to sell it or sell products that include it as an ingredient. It is also not permissible for you to carry the empty boxes of these goods as by doing so you are helping in sin. Allaah Says (which means): {…but do not cooperate in sin and aggression.}[Quran 5:2]. However, you may work in any other permissible section of this supermarket but it is more appropriate for you to look for another permissible work that is free from these prohibited items. You mentioned that the owner of this supermarket is an Arab Muslim so you should advise him as he might repent to Allaah and refrain from selling those forbidden products.

Allaah Knows best.
