All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
The father of this girl should not have refused the proposal of marriage of a religious and noble man on the plea of completing studies especially nowadays when dissoluteness and immorality have become widespread because the Prophet said: "When someone with whose religion and character you are satisfied asks for your daughter in marriage, accede to his request. If you do not do so, there will be trials on Earth and extensive corruption." [At-Tirmithi, Nasaa'ee and Ibn Maajah]
Now, we advise the girl and the family members to do their best to convince the father using acceptable means and courtesies with soft and pleasant manners. It is also advisable to seek the help of honorable persons who may change the mind of the father and convince him to marry his daughter to this noble man. If the father approves marrying her daughter, then praise be to Allaah on His guidance to the truth. If he insists on his refusal, then the girl has the right to take her case to any Islaamic court there, or any Islaamic centre, or Muslim organization.
The above mentioned ruling concerns the girl. As for you, if Allaah facilitates your marriage to this girl, then be thankful to Allaah; otherwise, forget about her and supplicate Allaah to provide you with a better spouse.
Finally, we inform you that the guardian of this girl has the right and can stipulate the condition that his daughter complete her studies after her marriage. If he does so then you have to fulfill that condition if you accept it at the time marriage contract is written. This is with the condition that her going to school will not involve committing any prohibition (which is not possible nowadays), but if there existed a setup where all practices in school are Islaamic, then you must fulfill the condition. Otherwise, you are not obliged to fulfill it.
