All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
Imaam Muslim reported in his Saheeh that Jaabir said that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, used to have a thick beard. In the narration of Imaam Ahmad and An-Nasaa’i both, “He had a thick beard”. Shaykh Al-Albaani graded it as Saheeh (authentic).
Al-Haythami explained the expression ‘thick beard’ in Al-Mujamma’a, saying, “It means that the beard is not thin or long but it is thick without being too dense or long.”
Al-Munawi said in Faydh Al-Qadeer, in the interpretation of ‘he used to have a thick beard’ that it is to say ‘dense and round, covering all what is between his shoulders.’
Al-Qurtubi said, “When they gave the evidence that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, had a thick beard, this does not mean that he had a long beard; it meant that it was thick but not long.”
Allaah Knows best.
