Question:
Is wearing very beautiful clothes a sin and making my hairs for example with gel and perfumes? (I wear beautiful clothes because I want to look nice and I want the people say about me: See Muslims are not strict, they can wear beautiful clothes and look nice and in the same time be religious).
Answer:
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
There is no harm to do what you are asking about provided it is free from prohibitions such as imitating men or wearing the clothes that suggest fame, or show extravagance. If you avoid such prohibitions and wear good clothes, and make up your hair and the like with good intention, you may even be rewarded for your good intention.
Imam Muslim narrated from Ibn Masoud that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: He who has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of arrogance shall not enter Paradise. A person (among his hearers) said: verily a person loves that his dress should be fine and his shoes should be fine. The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) remarked: verily, Allah is Graceful and He loves Grace. Arrogance is to refuse the truth in disdain and to have contempt for the people .
Allah knows best.
