Wearing a Hijab and Dealing with Hairline Skin Issues

Question:

Assalamualaikum?I need your guidance on balancing hijab with puberty pimples. I have severe acne stretching to my hairline. Medical advice says tight hijab caps trap sweat and friction, worsening the inflammation and causing permanent scarring.?However, if I lift the cap to let my skin breathe, baby hairs on my forehead stick out and are visible to non-mahrams. If I pull it down to cover the hair, it crushes the painful acne, making it worse. Can I uncover my forehead during salah and outside

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

You are required to cover the hair of your head so that it is not visible to non-maḥram men or during prayer. However, you are not required to wear an extremely tight-fitting hijab or a tightly secured undercap beneath it, especially if doing so causes you harm or discomfort.

Rather, you should wear a covering (khimār) that adequately conceals your hair without causing harm to your skin. If the khimār slips in the presence of non-maḥram men or during prayer such that part of the hair becomes visible, then you should readjust it so that all of the hair is covered.

As for what occurs beyond your control due to necessary movement and the like, such that a small portion of the hair becomes exposed, then this is excused, inshā’Allāh.

Ibn Atiyyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in his Tafsīr:

It appears to me from the clear wording of the verse that a woman is commanded not to display her adornment and to strive to conceal everything that constitutes adornment. The exception applies to what inevitably becomes visible due to the necessity of movement, matters that cannot be avoided, or attending to one's affairs and similar situations. Whatever appears in this manner is excused.” [End quote]

It should also be noted that a woman is not required to cover her face during prayer.

Allah Knows best.
