All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
A menstruating woman is permitted neither to touch nor to write the Quran. Al-Kharashi a Maaliki scholar, said: “Touching the Mus-haf (copy of the Quran): It means that being in a state of impurity prevents one to touch a Mus-haf which is written in Arabic. Writing is like touching in this regard unless it is a verse in a book, basmalah (In the Name of Allaah) or a part of the Quran or religious admonishments in a paper,” he added.
Nevertheless, if there is a need for this, as is the case in the question, it is permissible. Mentioning the disallowed things due to menstruating, Ad-Dusooqi a Maaliki scholar, said: “Touching the Mus-haf, unless she is a teacher or student, for it is permissible for her to touch it in this case.”
Allaah Knows best.
