Eating in Restaurants Where Pork is Served Sometimes

2-4-2019 | IslamWeb

Question:

Is it permissible to eat from a place where pork is served if I only eat from the places that does not serve pork? My university dining hall has several restaurants. These restaurants have pork in their menus on certain days. I only eat from a restaurant if it is not serving pork that day. The cook makes the food in front of us so I dont see cross contamination with pork. But the ingredients are brought out from a common kitchen and I dont know if any contamination has occurred there. I think it is unlikely that any contamination has occurred. Also, if i do eat from a restaurant that serves pork and I get some food on my clothes do my clothes have to be washed or am i excused due to uncertainty?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Any food that you are not certain that it is forbidden, or that it contains what is forbidden, then there is no harm in eating it because Allah Says (what means): {It is He who created for you all of that which is on the earth.} [Quran 2:29]

However, if this food is meat, then you must be certain that this meat is from an animal that was slaughtered according to Islamic rites, and that it is from animals whose meat we are allowed to eat.

Therefore, there is no harm in eating the food described above, unless you doubt that it was not slaughtered according to Islamic rites, in which case, you should avoid it until you become sure that it is slaughtered according to Islamic rites.

You do not have to wash your clothes if any of this food falls on it, because, in principle, it is pure and does not contain what is impure.
