Question:

How should we seek refuge with Allaah for our children?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alyhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

There are many Quranic verses that we can use for seeking refuge with Allaah The Almighty for ourselves as well as for our children. This includes the last two verses of Soorat of Al-Baqarah, the verse of Al-Kursi (verse No. 255 of Soorat of Al-Baqarah), and the two Soorahs of Al-Falaq and An-Naas.

·        Ibn Mas‘ood may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “A person who recites the last two verses of Soorat Al-Baqarah each night, they will suffice him.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

·        Abu Hurayrah may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that he said, “The Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, ordered me to guard the Zakah (obligatory charity) revenue of Ramadan. Then somebody came to me and started stealing from the foodstuff. I caught him and said, 'I will take you to the Messenger of Allaah!' He mentioned the details of the story and then added, “That person said (to me), 'Do not take me to the Messenger of Allaah, and I will tell you a few words by which Allaah would benefit you. When you go to your bed, recite the verse of Al-Kursi (the Chair), for then there would be a guard from Allaah who will protect you all night long, and Satan will not be able to come near you till dawn.'” [Al-Bukhari]

·        Abu Sa‘eed may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that he said, "The Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, would seek refuge with Allaah from the Jinn and the evil eye. When the two Soorahs of Al-Falaq and An-Naas were revealed, he used them (for this purpose) and abandoned everything else.” [At-Tirmithi, An-Nasaa’i and Ibn Maajah]

·        Ibn ‘Abbaas may Allaah be pleased with him and his father, narrated that he said: “The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, would seek refuge with Allaah for (his grandsons) Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn ( may Allaah be pleased with them) saying: '’U‘eethukuma bikalimaatillaah at-taamah min kulli shaytaanin wa-haammah, wa-min kuli ‘aynin laammah (O Allaah, I seek refuge with Your perfect words from every devil and from poisonous pests and from every evil, harmful, envious eye.' Then he said: 'As such, Ibraaheem (Abraham) used to seek refuge with Allaah for (his sons) Ismaa‘eel (Ishmael) and Is’haaq (Isaac) by reciting this.’” [Al-Bukhari, At-Tirmithi and Ibn Maajah]

Allaah Knows best.
