Question:

Salam aleikum.I would like to know if its haram for children to wear wigs for fun? Wigs that r not made from human or animal hair but from fake material like the dolls have. Jazaki allahu khairan

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

There is no harm in applying hair which is pure, such as the artificial hair of what is called a Baarookah (wig), according to the view we consider to be most valid, as this is not included in extending or attaching of hair which is forbidden and by which one falls under the threat of punishment.

Al-Fawaakih ad-Dawaani (a Maaliki book) reads: “The meaning of attaching (hair) is that if she (a woman) does not attach it (to her own real hair), as if she places it on her head without attaching it, it is permissible, as the Qaadhi ‘Iyaadh explicitly stated, because in that case, it is like interwoven threads such as wool or silk braids which a woman does for beauty. So, there is nothing wrong with doing so and this is not included in the prohibition; rather, it is included among the types of beautification.

Accordingly, there is nothing wrong with letting children or others wear a wig made of artificial hair.

Allaah Knows best.
