All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.
The order to wash the penis and the testicles from Mathy is taken to be understood as being desirable, according to the view of those who say that is sufficient to do Istijmaar from Mathy. According to them, it is not an obligation to wash the penis and the testicles; rather, if one does Istijmaar for Mathy, it is sufficient, but if one washes the penis and testicles, then this is better.
Ibn Qudaamah said: “It is an obligation to wash the penis and the testicles from Mathy as an act of worship according to one of the two reported narrations from Ahmad. The second narration is that this is not an obligation and that the order of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, was for desirability, by analogy with all discharges [from the private parts].” [End of quote]
The view we adopt here in Islamweb is the second pronouncement. Therefore, there is clearly no contradiction – praise be to Allaah.
Allaah Knows best.
