Question:
I am planning to perform hajj this year along with my parents (In Sha Alla) and would like to know if I can go hajj with committee/Jamaeya/self financing money where a group of people put in some amount every month and is given to each person in a different month. Thanks,
Answer:
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
The common practice of collecting a certain sum from people's monthly salaries and then handing it to one of them at a time, with each person taking the amount in turn until each one of them has taken the amount, is permissible. A number of contemporary scholars, including Shaykh Abdul-‘Azeez ibn Baaz and Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen have issued Fatwa statements that it is permissible. Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen, may Allaah have mercy upon, said: “There is nothing wrong with this cooperative fund. It is permissible and there is no problem with it at all; for people or employees to agree and say: we will give one of us 1,000 riyals, i.e. each and every one of us hands him 1,000 riyals; if they were ten employees, the first takes 9,000 riyals. In the second month, the second person takes 9,000 riyals, and so on, until everyone has taken the same amount - there is absolutely nothing wrong with this…”
There is nothing wrong with performing Hajj with the money from the collected funds, as it is money taken by loan; so if the Hajj does not affect the payment of the remaining installments which one of the participants has to pay to others, then it is permissible.

Allaah Knows best.
