All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
The words mentioned in the question are metaphors for divorce. So, if you have uttered them with the intention to divorce, then your wife has become irrevocably divorced from you and she is not lawful to you until after she marries a husband other than you (a true marriage) and then he divorces her or dies; for Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {And if he has divorced her [for the third time], then she is not lawful to him afterward until [after] she marries a husband other than him. And if the latter husband divorces her [or dies], there is no blame upon the woman and her former husband for returning to each other if they think that they can keep [within] the limits of Allaah. These are the limits of Allaah, which He makes clear to a people who know.}[Quran 2:230]
Kindly, refer to the Fataawa 90531, 121973, 92476, and 120269.
We draw attention to the fact that taking the words of divorce lightly is something very dangerous because this may have a regretful end; so one should use wisdom in solving the problems of marital life away from the words of divorce.
Allaah Knows best.
