Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

First of all, we ask Allaah to grant your husband more guidance, piety and righteousness. In regard to your statement that he lost his ‘Eemaan (faith), you may refer to the laziness that may affect a person sometimes and so he feels that his ‘Eemaan decreased as narrated by Hanthalah may Allaah be pleased with him to whom the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: ''If you remain as you are in my presence and you always mention Allaah, the angels will shake hands with you in your beds and in your paths. But, O Hanthalah, there is a time for this and a time for that (i.e. a time should be devoted to the worldly affairs and a time should be devoted to prayer and meditation)." So, his feeling that his ‘Eemaan has become weak is a good trait in him.

Also, the same thing applies if he was a righteous man and he fears (hypocrisy) for himself as in the previous Hadeeth. Indeed, Al-Bukhari may Allaah have mercy upon him entitled a chapter: The fear of a believer that his actions will become void while he does not know.’ Then he said: Ibraaheem At-Taymi may Allaah have mercy upon him said: “I did not balance my acts against my words except that I fear for myself from being a liar. Besides, Ibn Abu Mulaykah may Allaah have mercy upon him said: I met thirty companions of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) each one of them fears for himself from hypocrisy and none of them says that his ‘Eemaan is like the ‘Eemaan of Mikaa’eel (Michael) or Jibreel (Gabriel)." Indeed, it is such a fear that urges a person to perform more good deeds.

Furthermore, you husband might mean some whispers that haunts him in regard to ‘Aqeedah (belief) and this is a kind of affliction. However, he should avoid those whispers and not pay any attention to it. If he does so, it will not harm him, and his response to it is a good trait from him as we clarified in Fataawa 18353 and 84625.

These whispers are not necessarily from the devil; it might only be some desires from one’s own evil self. For more benefit on performing Ruqyah, please refer to Fataawa 85500 and 88705.

Allaah Knows best.
