Question:
Asalaamu aleykum wahmantullaahi my brothers my question is. my name which my perents gave me when i was born and aqeeqah was done is not the name that i use now. I want to go the Hajj insha allaah next year, and someone recently told me that I can't use this name for hajj because it's not my real name that my parents gave me and this name is in my passport, certificate and all my other documents. Iam really confused because I want to go to hajj and I believe that allah conts your deeds and not your name and apearence. And I also belive the hadeeth, INA MAL AMAALU BINIYA. INDEED ACTION ARE BY INTENTION. only allaah knows the best JAZAAKHUMULAAHI KHAYRAN asalaamu aleykum warahmatullaah
Answer:
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
It is not a condition for the validity of Hajj that a person performs it with the name that his father gave him. The name has nothing to do at all with the validity of Hajj and the person who issued a Fatwa to you that it is not permissible to perform Hajj without your former name is wrong, and he should fear Allaah and stop issuing Fataawa without knowledge.
For more benefit about changing the name, please refer to Fatwa 89303.
Allaah Knows best.
