The Israeli occupation army jailed three Palestinians in the West Bank as it hunted down resistance men plotting attacks against Israel. In the northern West Bank town of Nablus, Israeli occupation soldiers jailed two men, including a wanted member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. To the south, the occupation army arrested a member of Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement in Hebron, the Israeli occupation army said Saturday.
The occupation army imposed a curfew on the flashpoint West Bank city Friday as thousands of Jews arrived for religious services at the Tomb of the Patriarchs, the burial site of the prophet Abraham.
Israel to Consolidate Liaison Units
Israel has decided to put the military and civilian offices responsible for dealing with the Palestinians under one umbrella, a move at least partly in response to the ongoing conflict, an Israeli official said Friday.
Ophir Chacham, spokesman for Israel's coordinator of activities in the West Bank and Gaza Strip , said putting the two offices under one command should make operations more efficient.
The Israeli occupation army handles both military and civilian dealings with the Palestinians, but through two separate offices.
"Due to the changes, the dynamics and the relationship between Israel and the Palestinians it was decided to make dealings and existing contacts between Israel and the Palestinians more efficient," Chacham said.
The changes, which begin in January, may have little actual impact on the Palestinians. Day-to-day contacts between the sides have diminished greatly since the latest fighting erupted in September 2000.
