They enjoin good and forbid evil.

Pious Muslims implement the Command of Allah The Almighty in the verse that reads (what means): {And let there be [arising] from you a nation inviting to [all that is] good, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong, and those will be the successful.} [Quran 3:104]
The members of the Muslim home carry the message of Islam and live for it; their hearts constantly strive in their attempts to spread the true message of Islam. Their hearts are illuminated by the light of their righteous deeds and of their Imaan (faith), which accordingly lights up their hearts and homes and also illuminates the entire Muslim society. Such pious Muslims would enjoin good and forbid evil wisely as Allah The Exalted Says (what means): {And let there be [arising] from you a nation inviting to [all that is] good.} [Quran 3:104] Undeniably, Da‘wah [calling people to Allah The Almighty] is the mission of the Muslim society and the way of the followers of the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ); Allah The Exalted Says (what means): {Say, "This is my way; I invite to Allah with insight, I and those who follow me...} [Quran 12:108]
They make the Islamic Sharee‘ah (Islamic legislation) and the laws and methods of Allah The Exalted as the basis of their relations with others.
They adopt the Islamic creed of Walaa’ and Baraa’ (allegiance to the pious and disassociation from the enemies of Allah The Almighty). They take the allies of Allah The Exalted as their allies and close friends no matter how far they are from them in kinship. Similarly, they take the enemies of Allah The Almighty as their enemies no matter how close they are to them in kinship. In fact, they do not choose their allies or enemies based on bias or bigotry; they render those who obey Allah The Exalted and adopt the correct Islamic beliefs as their allies, while dissociating themselves from the people of Shirk i.e., associating partners with Allah The Exalted, those who adopt the deviated beliefs and ideas, and those who follow their misleading desires and whims, even if they are their close relatives. They have learned from Allah The Almighty and His Messenger to listen and obey to the Commands of Allah The Exalted. Allah The Exalted Says (what means):
  • {O you who have believed, do not take the disbelievers as allies instead of the believers. Do you wish to give Allah against yourselves a clear case?} [Quran 4:144]
  • {You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day having affection for those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even if they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their kindred. Those – He has decreed within their hearts faith and supported them with spirit from Him. And We will admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him – those are the party of Allah.  Unquestionably, the party of Allah – they are the successful.} [Quran 85:22]
Indeed, a fundamental attitude that numerous Muslims neglect nowadays is dissociating themselves from their children who disobey Allah The Exalted and His Messenger and are among those who boast about their sins such as neglecting to perform obligatory prayers or the like. In fact, nowadays, many Muslims do not dissociate themselves from such children, and there would be no trace of anger written all over their faces for that. Instead, they might reprove those who enjoin their children and admonish them for committing wrongdoings. This is a real tragedy of our time, Inna lillaahi wa innaa ilayhi raaji‘oon.[1] [which means: Indeed we belong to Allah The Exalted, and indeed to Him we will return]

They assign a great deal of care and attention to parenting.

Such Muslims know that Islam pays great attention to building good Muslim families; since good Muslim families are the fundamental building block for community. All communities consist of families; were these families to be good and righteous ones, the whole community would be good and righteous as well and accordingly the entire nation would attain success.

These pious Muslims bear in mind the significance of raising righteous children both in this life and the Hereafter; virtuous children would help their parents to do righteous deeds and obey Allah The Almighty duly and in the Hereafter [after their dearth] they would beseech Allah The Exalted in supplication to grant their parents His Forgiveness. Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ), said: “If a man dies, his work [righteous deeds] stops except for three, ongoing and perpetual alms i.e. charity, beneficial knowledge and a good (virtuous) son who supplicates for him.” [Ibn Hibbaan] [Saheeh]

As soon as their children start talking, pious parents would teach them to mention the Name of Allah The Almighty and instill the Oneness of Allah The Exalted into them. When the child starts talking, he recites Tahleel ‘Laa Ilaah illa Allah’ [which means: none is truly worthy of worship but Allah], Tasbeeh ‘Subhaan Allah’ [which means: all Praise is due to Allah], and Takbeer ‘Allahu Akbar’ [which means: Allah is the Greatest].  Notice, dear Muslim, the huge difference between a pious child and that whose first words are obscene and vulgar!

An expression called ‘Istirjaa‘ which is a Thikr that Muslims are instructed to say when afflicted by any sort of calamity.
