Question

Assalamalaikum, I work for a company, they had glass which they had used for fixing door, in that two small pieces of glass, previously they were throwing it and later some they utilized, i have a hobby of making waste materials for some kind of crafts etc., so i had told my office boy to show me the materials which is about to throw, if i can reuse it i will take, that time he gave me two glass pieces, 3 more were in office, i had asked him, if we really throwing it, as i am incharges of office, i dint know what to do, i just took it and went without informing my seniors, one glass they cut and used as aquarium supporting glass the rest my office boy about to throw but bought so that we can reuse- now that glass piece of glass is with me, other just one more small piece. now i dont know what to do. and i dont think those glasses is of any use to office either. but i am scared whether its haram or halal because i have not informed my seniors about it.

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

If the custom in that work is that if anything remains from that glass, they get rid of it and throw it away, then it is permissible for you to benefit from it. However, if it is kept for possible reuse, then it is not permissible for you to take it without the permission of the person in charge. Therefore, you should look to what you used previously whether such glass is thrown away and disposed of, in which case, it is permissible for you to use it, but if it is kept and reused, then you should inform the person in charge about it. If he discharges you from liability, then all the best, otherwise you should give back its price.
