The Prophet, , interacted with inanimate beings in many instances. These miracles proved his veracity, and the divine nature of his message. Some of the miracles of the Prophet, , were:
· Jaabir bin 'Abdullaah may Allah be pleased with him, reported,
“We set out on an expedition along with Allah's Messenger until we dismounted in a spacious valley and Allah's Messenger went to relieve himself. I followed him with a bucket full of water and Allah's Messenger looked about and he found no privacy but two trees at the end of the valley. He went to one of them and took hold of one of its twigs and said: ‘Be thou under my control, by the permission of Allah,”and so it came under his control like a camel who has its nose string in the hand of its rider; then he came to the second tree and took hold of a twig and said: ‘Be thou under my control, with the permission of Allah’ and it came under his control, and when he came in the middle of the two trees, he joined together the two twigs and said : ‘Join with the permission of Allah.’ I (Jaabir) was afraid lest Allah's Messenger should be aware of my nearness and go still farther, and I began to talk to myself. I suddenly found Allah's Messenger before me and the two trees were separated and each one of them was standing at its place. I saw Allah's Messenger standing for a short time, nodding his head towards right and left.” [Muslim]
· Ibn ‘Abbaas, may Allah be pleased with him, reported,
“Once a Bedouin came to the Messenger and said, ‘How do I know that you are truly a messenger from Allah?’ He said: ‘If I call this bunch of fruits on the date palm tree and it responds to me, would you then testify that I am the Messenger of Allah?’The Bedouin replied in the affirmative, so he, sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam, called the bunch and the bunch climbed down until it fell on the ground, then it moved towards the Prophet until it reached him. Then he commanded it, saying: ‘Go back,’and it returned to its place. Thereupon, the Bedouin said, ‘I swear by Allah! I will never belie you in anything you say and I testify that you are the Messenger of Allah.’”[Al-Haakim]
· Ibn Mas’ood, may Allah be pleased with him, reported, “The Messenger entered Makkah while there were 360 idols placed around the Ka’bah, so he began to thrust them with the stick that was in his hand reciting the saying of Allah (which means): {Truth has come and falsehood has vanished. Lo! falsehood was destined to vanish.}[Quran, 17: 81], and the saying of Allah The Almighty (which means): {Truth has arrived, and falsehood can neither create anything from the beginning nor can it restore to life.}[Quran, 34: 49] Whenever he pointed at any of them, it would fall down.”[Muslim]
· Jaabir bin 'Abdullaah may Allah be pleased with him, reported,
“The Prophet used to stand by a tree or a date-palm on Friday. Then a woman from the Ansaar asked, ‘O Allah's Apostle! Shall we make a pulpit for you?’He replied: ‘If you wish.’So they made a pulpit for him and when it was Friday, he proceeded towards the pulpit (for delivering the sermon). The date-palm then cried like a child! The Prophet descended (from the pulpit) and embraced it while it continued whimpering like a child being calmed. The Prophet said: ‘It was crying for (missing) what it used to hear of religious knowledge given near to it.’” [Al-Bukhari]
Another narration adds, “Then, the Prophet said to it: ‘You have the choice either that I implant you in another spot or in Paradise and drink from its rivers and springs, and thus become fruitful and the righteous (inhabitants of Paradise) will eat from your fruits.’ The trunk chose the Hereafter. He further said: ‘Had I not embraced it, it would have cried until the Day of Resurrection.’ [Al-Bukhari]
