Question
My mother intended to perform Hajj this year, but my sister became pregnant and my mother will postpone Hajj to the next year to stay with her as she will deliver a baby during the time of Hajj and no one else would be with her. I live in Saudi Arabia and my mother was intending to stay with me for four months to perform Hajj, leaving my sister by herself.
Will my mother be held sinful for delaying Hajj, or should she perform Hajj, leaving my sister alone for four months?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His Slave and Messenger.
Hajj must be performed immediately, according to the sounder opinion of scholars. Thus, the person who is capable of performing Hajj should perform it immediately unless he has an excuse. If the person has an excuse, he may delay Hajj until he becomes able to perform it. Hence, if your sister does not have anyone to take care of her during her pregnancy and after her labor, then apparently your mother's stay with her would be an excuse that makes it permissible to delay Hajj until the following year and she would not be held sinful, if Allah wills.
And Allah knows best.
