Question
I have dreamed twice that my wife is committing adultery, which has aroused my suspicions regarding her. What should I do?
Fatwa
All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad, sallaallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
A believer should not make any judgment based on visions. A person should not suspect those who live with him in kindness and appear to be righteous, since visions please people not harm them, Allah willing.
It was narrated on the authority of Abu Sa‘eed Al-Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, sallaallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said that if anyone dreams something that appears pleasant to him, then it is from Allah The Almighty. The person should praise Allah The Almighty and tell people about it. However, if the person dreams of something unpleasant, then it is from Satan. The person should seek refuge in Allah The Almighty from its evil and not tell anyone about it, because it will not harm him. [Al-Bukhari]
It was also narrated on the authority of Abu Qataadah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, sallaallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said that good dreams are from Allah The Almighty, while bad dreams are from Satan. The Prophet, sallaallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, also advised anyone who has a bad dream to spit on his left side and seek refuge in Allah The Almighty from its evil, as it will not harm him. [Al-Bukhari]
Thus, if you have a dream similar to the one you had or any other unpleasant dream, then you should spit on your left, seek refuge in Allah The Almighty, and do not tell anyone about it. Moreover, you should be wary of the whispers of Satan as he is keen to separate husbands and wives.
And Allah knows best.
