Question
A pilgrim has finished the rituals of ‘Umrah and wants to make the Farewell Tawaaf and leave the Sanctuary, but he wants to visit At-Taa’if. Should he make the Tawaaf and go to At-Taa’if or is At-Taa’if part of the Sanctuary, knowing that he intends to visit Al-Madeenah after that?
Fatwa
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
The boundaries of the Makkan Sanctuary are known and no scholar ever said that At-Taa’if is part of it. Thus, whoever performed the Farewell Tawaaf then moved to At-Taa’if would be out of the Sanctuary and his Tawaaf would be valid. He would not be required to return to Makkah, and he could go wherever he wants, either to Al-Madeenah or any place. It should be noted that the Farewell Tawaaf after ‘Umrah is only a recommended act and not obligatory. Allah Knows best.
